Who? Why? When? How? Where? These are all questions that humanity’s finest philosophers have not been able to answer. “Who are we?” is a great question to start with.
We, as humans, have a sense of superiority automatically embedded into our psyche, where everyone finds themselves superior to another or inferior to someone else. No human is exempt from this. We tend to think about our lives superficially regarding tangible, material possessions. We strive to achieve money, fame, clothes, food, and so much more but forget about who we are as a person. We do things that we do not want to do in order to achieve something that we want and this is unhealthy. We need to live our lives in a manner that reflects how we want to live, so torturing yourself to find superficial factors such as discipline or money are not worth it. We need to do what makes us happy. For some people it can be helping others while for others it could be providing for ourselves. It varies from person to person. However, we tend to take the harder route while completing something and do things we plainly do not want to do. This is one thing I’ve realized about humans.
Furthermore, humans are going to die as a species eventually as our greed has overtaken the planet’s health and ended our opportunity to make amends with it. We will be replaced by another species which will become the new dominant species on Earth and our existence will merely be a piece of history. We as a society will not realize this until the apocalypse starts, and by then it's way too late to try and rebound.
We are naturally evil and there is no way we can fix it. Our newfound power with the increase of technology and knowledge has led to the best and worst of humanity. War has devastated billions of people throughout history and has shown the true evil behind the human mind. We are ruthless. Hitler, Genghis Khan, Charles Manson, Stalin, Jim Jones, and thousands of other people in power have shown time and time again how an evil person can wreak havoc once given resources and power. These individuals have murdered innocent individuals for reasons outside the victim’s control and have shown no mercy for their actions. Populations and communities also show evil with racism, discrimination, slavery, and other such injustices. Slavery is a prime example of how evil humans are, where they tortured and worked the literal life out of people as they exploited them for material goods.
Humans are also naturally good and we have the ability to help other people. We have the ability to respect mother nature and other people. Some enlightened people show this on a day to day basis as they respect everyone and everything. Although this is rare, it is most definitely possible for everyone to have respect for others. We all make mistakes, but we can fix it and work together as a society to fix our society. It takes a bit of heart to help a person in need, but we all have potential to help others and we should take this opportunity and make the world a better place. Respect your peers and respect yourself and this is when you really succeed in life.
The question no longer is “Who are we?”.
Instead. Who are you? Who can you be? Who is your best self?
